I love how then House Speaker Tip O'Neil had to almost force Ted Kennedy and President Carter to shake hands at the 1980 Democratic National Convention after their bitter primary battle that Carter won . . . the Carter supporters believed that Kennedy's challenge and his lukewarm support for Carter in the general election campaign paved the way for Ronald Reagan's victory. . . but Kennedy ran a poor primary campaign against a very vulnerable Jimmy Carter and it will always be one of "History's Mysteries" how Kennedy would have played against Reagan in 1980 if he had gotten the Democratic nomination . . .
